YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION

(For students Grades 9-12)

Additionally, judges may award up to five scholarships to Austin Peay State University Department of Music of up to $20,000 each over four years to outstanding contestants – subject to admittance to APSU.

The competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists who are currently enrolled in grades 9-12 (public, private or home school) and who do not have a high school diploma or the equivalent. The competition consists of three rounds as outlined below:

I. Preliminary Recorded Round consists of contestants submitting an unedited performance using the guidelines under Music on the Requirements page. The recording may be audio or video and should be submitted by providing a YouTube link on the Application page.

II. Live Semi-final Division Round consists of contestants who advance from the Preliminary Recorded Round competing in one of the "Division Areas" listed below. Contestants will perform the music from the preliminary round recording in a live performance for a panel of judges. One winner from each "Division Area" will be chosen to advance to the Final Round.

c. Strings and Guitar
d. Piano and Keyboard Percussion
e. Voice

III. Live Final Round consists of winners of the "Division Area" competing in a live public performance for a panel of judges using music from the previous rounds for the Second Prize of $500 (total prize package or $750) and the Grand Prize of $750 (total prize package for the winner is $1,000).
