Honor Choir

Open to children in 3rd grade through 8th grade (age 8 - 13) and now welcoming singers from public and private schools from Clarksville and surrounding counties.

This exciting program that quickly becoming a premier performing organization in the community. Participants perform as an elite youth choir, and also perform on standard harmony instruments, as well as non-traditional instrumental pieces, and world percussion. While this is primarily a performing ensemble, practices include music reading, listening, and musical and vocal development. This ensemble is also be an excellent primer for students who may be interested in singing in a choir or playing a band instrument when they reach middle or high school.

Now Welcoming public and private school singers: New for the 2017-2018 season, we welcome any singer from local public or private schools. We encourage all singers to prioritize singing in your school's children's choir where available, to support your local music program. However, if your school does not not offer a youth or children's choir, we hope you'll join us.

Performances: In prior years, the choir has performed on stage at the Country Music Hall of Fame, at the Nashville Science Museum, a concert-in-the part, and at the Governor's Square Mall in Clarksville. The 2016-2017 season ended with a performance on stage at the Mabry Concert hall in a performance with the APSU joint choirs.

Auditions: For this semester, no audition is required; although, as the group grows in number and in quality, auditions will be required for new and incoming participants. For now, if your children meet the age requirements, are interested in singing in a top-level choir, and can sing in-tune with a pleasing voice, we hope you will encourage them to join. Lastly, all participants will be expected to adhere to the participation agreement and code of conduct described below.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are on Mondays from 4:30 to 6:00, (January 22 though April 16). The cost is $35.00 for the first child, and $25.00 for each additional sibling. Classes meet in Rm. 147 of the Music/Mass Communications Building on the Campus of Austin Peay State University.

Honor Chior DirectorsThe choir is directed by Ms. Susannah White, and Ms. Briana Owen. Both are vocal music education majors at APSU and your children may recognize them from their work as Camp Granada leaders.
