Lisa Conklin-Bishop received her B.S. in Vocal Performance at Austin Peay State University, a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance and Opera from the University of Michigan, and has done doctoral work at Vanderbilt University in German Literature. She continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria, and toured with the Jugend Oper Wien (Vienna Youth Opera) and was engaged at the Stadttheater in Regensburg, Germany. She has served as Lower School Music Specialist, Theatre troupe director, and German Teacher at Clarksville Academy and has worked as Adjunct Instructor of Voice and German at Austin Peay State University, Stage and Musical director of the Hopkinsville Pennyroyal Arts Council/YMCA Summer Broadway Junior Music Camp, and Director of the Trinity Episcopal Church Choir. As a singer, Ms. Conklin-Bishop is an active performer in the Clarksville community. No stranger to the stage at Austin Peay, Ms. Conklin-Bishop’s appearances have ranged from a performance of Humperdinck’s Hänsel and Gretel as an undergraduate, to the première of Jeffrey Wood’s Diaries: a Parable for Voices and a memorable performance of Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appétit! which was performed under the composer’s direction. She is presently director of opera at Austin Peay and has directed performances of Suor Angelica (Puccini), Brundibár (Krása), A Game of Chance (Barab), Down in the Valley (Weill), Ben and the Virtues (Mabry/Gildrie), The Pirates of Penzance (Gilbert and Sullivan), Riders to the Sea (Vaughan Williams), L’Enfant et les Sortileges (Ravel), La Cambiale di Matrimonio (Rossini) and numerous other operatic and musical scenes.
