Dr. Eric Branscome

Associate Professor of Music

Dr. Eric Branscome joined the Austin Peay State University Music Department in the fall of 2011 as Coordinator of Music Education, and became Department Chair in the fall 2017 semester. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, supervises music student teachers, and is the founder and director of Camp Granada, APSU's elementary music summer day camp. He was the recipient of the 2012 Socrates Award for Excellence in Teaching, the 2014 Harold Love Community Service Award, and the 2016 Outstanding Advising Award.

Prior to his appointment at APSU, Dr. Branscome taught courses in music education, and instrumental music at East Texas Baptist University, Dallas Baptist University, and was a Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas.  Dr. Branscome also taught preschool and elementary music for seven years in Miami, and in the Dallas area where he directed various elementary choirs, instrumental ensembles, and founded Camp Granada. Dr. Branscome holds a Bachelor of Music from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Master of Music from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of North Texas.  

Dr. Branscome is the author of Camp Granada: A Music Camp Curriculum (Rowman and Littlefield), Music Career Advising: A Guide for Students, Parents, and Teachers (Rowman & Littlefield ), Essential Listening Activities, Essential Rhythm Activities, and Music Board Game Workshop (Alfred Publications).  His other publications and research interests include elementary curriculum development, music teacher education, and music career advising. Dr. Branscome is an Orff-certified music instructor. He has twice been named to Who's Who in America and Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He is a member of the Tennessee Music Educators Association (TMEA [Higher Education Chair, 2014-2016]), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE), College Music Society (CMS), Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, and is an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha.
