Professor Denk is a board-certified music therapist and the current Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Music Therapy in the Department of Music at Austin Peay State University. Prior to entering academia, Denk spent 10 years providing clinical music therapy services in Iowa, Texas, and Florida. She has extensive experience with a variety of populations across the lifespan including hospitalized infants, children with special needs, adults receiving psychiatric services, adult oncology patients, and elderly adults receiving hospice care. Denk earned both her bachelorâ??s and masterâ??s in music therapy from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Her thesis research investigated the impact of a music therapy support group on perceived stress, anxiety, and depression in long-term caregivers.
