(Posted 10/9/20) ALL, September Student Leader of the Month
Nominated by Yanaraliz Barnes for his contributions and initiative serving the Latinx Heritage Month Committee, Joshua Negron is named Student Leader of the Month for September 2020.
Yanaraliz Barnes, coordinator for the Hispanic Cultural Center, shared in her nomination: Joshua Negron is a senior majoring in History and Political Science. This year, he volunteered to serve as a member of the Latinx Heritage Month Committee. His contributions to the committee have been numerous, one of them being the event titled In between two worlds: What it means to be Latinx in America. Joshua took the initiative to put together a program that would allow Latinx students on campus to speak on their journeys, their daily experiences and intergenerational navigation. To accomplish this task, Joshua worked alongside program coordinator, Antonella Valdivia. Joshua spent hours researching the topic and putting together comprehensive resources that would later become a part of the presentation. Ultimately, Joshua created a safe space for Latinx students to share their experiences, educate members of the community, and for Latinx students to find support amongst one another. I am proud of his efforts and the courageous group of students who shared their stories with us.
Congratulations Joshua, your student leadership and dedication to building community at APSU is greatly appreciated.
