CoAL Black Student Research Awards

DESCRIPTION

In the College of Arts & Letters, we are committed to creating more scholarships, funding, and research opportunities for Black students. This academic year the College of Arts & Letters has budgeted $2,000 for research grants for Black students. At this time, we welcome applications for this funding. Awards will be made during the spring semester (2021). The number of funded proposals is dependent on the number and quality of applications received.

In the College of Arts & Letters research is defined as both scholarly and creative research and activities. Some examples include but are not limited to: Funding for archival/library research, funding for materials, funding for travel (dependent on university travel guidance), and so on. This grant is open to students who are majoring or minoring in a CoAL program.

GUIDELINES

In order to apply for this funding, students must complete the online application. All applications are due to the Dean of the College of Arts & Letters (jonesb@apsu.edu) no later than March 1, 2021.

ONLINE APPLICATION

Additionally, all students must identify a faculty mentor. The faculty mentor must be available for questions/guidance and to review the student’s research/creative activity. The faculty mentor serves as a supervisor more than a collaborator, though students and faculty mentors should agree on a mentoring plan together prior to submitting this application.

Though a faculty mentor is required, faculty involvement is not a factor in the award selection process.

At the beginning of the fall semester (2021) students are required to submit a post-grant report. Student work may also be included in a CoAL student showcase.
