Billy Renkl grew up in Birmingham, AL. He attended Auburn University (BFA, Visual Communications) and the University of South Carolina (MFA, Drawing). Renkl’s work has been featured in many solo and group exhibitions, including solo shows at The Jule Collins Smith Museum (Auburn, AL), The Foley Gallery (3-person, New York City), Taylor/Bercier Gallery (New Orleans), Vanderbilt University, The University of Kentucky, The Tennessee Arts Commission, and the Galerie Neue Raume (Berlin, Germany). He is represented in several permanent collections, including The University of Alabama at Birmingham, The Tennessee State Museum, and The College of Notre Dame, Baltimore. In addition to gallery exhibitions, Renkl has worked with many clients on illustration assignments, including The New York Times, SouthWest Airlines, How Magazine , Klutz Inc., Strategy & Business, and Rigby Publishing. He illustrated Late Migrations (2019, Milkweed Editions) and The Comfort of Crows (2023, Spiegel & Grau), both by Margaret Renkl, and the picture book When You Breathe by Diana Farid (2020, Cameron Kids).
