Austin Peay's Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts presents a reading by award-winning author and surgeon Dr. Richard Selzer.

His reading will begin at 8 p.m., Thursday, April 1, in Gentry Auditorium, located in APSU's Kimbrough Building. A reception and book signing will follow. His works “The Doctor Stories” and “The Exact Location of the Soul” will be available for purchase.

Inspired by experiences as a Yale surgeon and private practitioner, Selzer's acclaimed books describe the practice and meaning of medicine. His book “Letters to a Young Doctor” and the first three chapters of “Mortal Lessons” have become required reading in virtually all medical schools throughout the U.S.

Nominated for the Pen/Faulkner Award, “The Doctor Stories” has been described by “The Journal of the American Medical Association” as “[d]isturbing and biting, touching and uplifting …[the book] identifies strength in frailty, rapture in healing and meaning in the single details of everyday life.”

“An intelligent and thoughtful observer with many years of experience at the Yale School of Medicine, Selzer enables us to see our bodies in previously unconsidered ways …[‘The Exact Location of the Soul'] is a brilliant guide to the human body.”—The Book Magazine

The reading, reception and book signing are free and open to the public. For further information, telephone 7891.
