Wind Ensemble to perform classics, recent compositions

The Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will present a concert featuring the APSU Wind Ensemble.

The concert will start at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 4 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

The APSU Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Gregory Wolynec, assistant professor of music. Guest conductors for the concert will include Andrea Brown, Richard Burchett, Vera Fulmer and Justin Womack.

The concert also will feature guest percussion soloists David Steinquest, Theresa Holonich, Davin Smith and Brandon Wilson.

The concert features works such as “Smetana Fanfare” by Karel Husa, “Little Symphony for Winds” by Franz Schubert, “Concertino for Four Percussion and Wind Ensemble” by David Gillingham and “Toccata Marziale” by Ralph Vaughn Williams, “Sussex Mummer's Christmas Carol” by Percy Grainger and Symphony No. 2 by Frank Ticheli.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to hear APSU's finest instrumentalists in action in a concert of wind ensemble classics as well as terrific recent compositions,” Wolynec said.
