Venable's record-tying blast lifts Lady Govs to softball split

Brianna Venable made her record-tying day count.

The sophomore shortstop smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to rally Austin Peays softball team to a 9-5 second-game Ohio Valley Conference victory April 17 against Eastern Illinois. The Lady Govs lost the opener, 7-6, in 11 innings.

Venable's blast was her third of the day, giving her 10 on the season. That ties her with Andrea Miller (1995) for the APSU single-season home run mark. In fact, Venable's three-homer day (she hit two in the first game) also places her second all-time for career home runs (14) behind Miller's 22.

APSU's win snapped EIU's seven-game win streak.
