Another highlight will be Reinecke's “Sonata ‘Undine,'” which is based on a 19th-century German romantic novel about a water spirit who wants to become immortal by marrying a mortal man. The final melody represents Undine returning to the sea brokenhearted.

Vanarsdel joined Austin Peay's music department in 1987. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University, earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. Her bachelor's and master's degrees in music are from the University of Illinois.

The recital is free and open to the public.
