Vanarsdel performs at Carnegie Hall

An APSU music professor will perform at the legendary Carnegie Hall next month.

Dr. Lisa Vanarsdel, flutist, has been invited to perform a concert featuring the music of composer John Steffa, professor of music at Murray State University, March 21.

Her portion of the concert will include the New York premier of Steffa's Festival Diversions for flute and piano. The piece is based on Steffa's musical impressions of Peru–a place that also is special to Vanarsdel.

“I've journeyed to Peru on two occasions and feel a strong affinity for its music, culture and people,” she says.

She also has participated in the preview concerts at Murray State University and Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Ky.

Vanarsdel joined Austin Peay's music department in 1987. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University, earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. Her bachelor's and master's degrees in music are from the University of Illinois.
