University presents Natalie Welch Memorial Scholarship event Sept. 17

Last fall, the family of Natalie Jo Welch established an art scholarship in her memory at APSU.

Now, the public is invited to celebrate Welchs life from 1-7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, in the Morgan University Center Ballroom and Gallery, APSU.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. as art competition participants submit their entries. The contest is open to high school juniors and seniors, as well as current APSU students. The entry fee is $20, and multiple entries are allowed.

Judging will commence from 2-4 p.m.

At 5 p.m., guests are invited to view an art show featuring Welch's work. Limited-edition prints of five of her most sought-after pieces will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund. A silent auction also will begin at 5 p.m. with items donated by individuals and businesses.

The winners of the art competition and the first Natalie Jo Welch Scholarship in Art will be announced at 6 p.m., followed by entertainment by Clarksville favorite Mike Robinson.

At the time of her death, Welch, 22, had just entered Savannah College of Art. The Clarksville High School graduate was senior class president, an honor roll student and a member of the soccer team.

Admission is $20 each. Reserved tables of eight are available. Refreshments will be provided. Guests are asked to RSVP by Tuesday, Sept. 13.
