School of Business, accounting students offer free tax sessions

Austin Peay State University School of Business and its accounting students, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service VITA program, are offering free tax-preparation sessions.

The sessions, which are available to the APSU and Clarksville community, are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturdays, Feb. 24 and March 3, 10, 17 and 31 in Kimbrough Hall, Room 214.

The service will provide e-file basic tax returns using the IRS TaxWise software.

“It is our intention to provide volunteer services with valuable personal knowledge and skills to satisfy both educational goals and community needs,” said Dr. Hassan Said, associate professor of accounting.

To be eligible for this service, a taxpayer must have an annual income of less than $39,000 and cannot be a business owner or investor. Photo identification, Social Security card, Form W-2 and Form 1099 are required for taxpayer, spouse and dependents. For direct deposit, a bank-routing number (obtained from a deposit slip) is needed.
