Poetry readings by Daniels, Brewer set

Austin Peay State Universitys Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will provide poetry readings by Kate Daniels and Gaylord Brewer.

Presented as part of the Visiting Writers Series, this event is free and open to the public. The readings begin at 4 p.m., Oct. 22 at the Gentry Auditorium, located in the Kimbrough Building.

A professor at Vanderbilt University, Daniels has written “The Niobe Poems,” “The White Wave” and “Four Testimonies.” Additionally, her work has been included in anthologies such as the American Poetry Review, Critical Quarterly and the Southern Review. Her awards include the Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize, the Crazyhorse Prize, the Louisiana Literature Prize and the James Dickey Prize. Daniels also has been selected for LSU Press' Southern Messenger Series.

Brewer is a poet, playwright and the founding editor of the Journal of Poems and Plays. His most recent books of poetry include “Let Me Explain” and “The Martini Diet.” His plays have been performed in Alaska, Illinois, New York, Ohio and Tennessee. His works of drama have also been published in the Art of Act One, Blackwater Review and Verve. Brewer also taught in St. Petersburg, Russia, Kenya and New Delhi, India. Brewer currently teaches at Middle Tennessee State University.
