Butler and Dr. Maureen McCarthy (now on leave from APSU and serving at the American Psychological Association) co-authored an article published in the Spring 2003 issue of the Journal of College Counseling. The title of the article was "Responding to Traumatic Events on College Campuses: A case study and assessment of student post-disaster anxiety." The article was based on a study of student anxiety after the tornado that struck the Austin Peay campus in January 1999.

Dr. Jack Deibert, associate professor of geology, was the lead author of an article titled "Eocene clinoform growth in front of a storm-wave-dominated shelf, Central Basin, Spitsbergen: no significant sand delivery to deepwater areas." The paper was published in the July issue of the Journal of Sedimentary Research, an international journal focusing on sedimentary geology. Deibert is continuing his research in Spitsbergen but, in collaboration with Dr. Phyllis Camilleri, associate professor of geology, also has ongoing research related to petroleum geology in northern Nevada.
