Dr. Stanley Groppel, dean of Extended and Distance Education, recently attended the regional meeting of the Alliance for Continuing Higher Education.

Julia McGee, director of Extended Education, chaired the Tennessee Alliance for Continuing Higher Education Awards Committee for the third consecutive year at last weeks annual meeting.

Dr. Stanley Groppel, dean of Extended and Distance Education, recently attended the regional meeting of the Alliance for Continuing Higher Education.

Julia McGee, director of Extended Education, chaired the Tennessee Alliance for Continuing Higher Education Awards Committee for the third consecutive year at last week's annual meeting.

Dr. Allene Phy-Olsen, director of the Honors Program and professor of languages and literature, gave a talk on "Ebooks and Holy Books" in the opening plenary session of the conference of Carolina libraries in Charleston, S.C., on Nov. 6. This conference attracts a nationwide audience and is the only one in which publishers, ebook developers and librarians all take part.

Dr. Gregory Zieren, associate professor of history, delivered a paper titled “Conducting Oral Histories in a Military Community” at the Oral History Association's annual meeting Oct. 9 in Washington, D.C. He says Austin Peay history alum Stephen P. Smith ('00), now a graduate student at Middle Tennessee State University, presented “Community Ties Among World War II Veterans of the 101st” at the same conference.

Faculty members and 10 students from the department of computer science and information technology attended the Association For Computing Machinery (ACM) Mid-Southeast Chapter Meeting, Nov. 13-14, in Gatlinburg. Drs. Bruce Myers, Jiang Li and Nancy Smithfield served as session chairs, while Dr. Jim Vandergriff judged the Student Paper Contest. Austin Peay student Michel Maokhampio presented a paper, “The Power Of The Xbox Revealed.” Other APSU students who attended the conference included Allen Sivley, Jeff Boarman, Sean Colp, Stefan Koch, Booker T. Washington, Urvish Bhagat, Benessa Defend, Tyree Hook and James Kitchen. The students' travel expenses were partially funded by the APSU ACM Student Chapter.
