Joe Mills, director of Housing/Residence Life and Dining, was elected president of the Tennessee Association of College and University Housing Officers for 2009-10 during a recent conference.

Also at the conference, Kimberly Morrow, associate director, and Shaundra Bills, director of the Living Learning Community, presented a talk, titled Just Like a Flower, Helping Students GROW.

Also at the conference, Kimberly Morrow, associate director, and Shaundra Bills, director of the Living Learning Community, presented a talk, titled “Just Like a Flower, Helping Students GROW.”

In addition, Sue Fort, assistant director, and Brenda Lewis, technical clerk, presented “To RMS or Not to RMS.” Each presentation provided personal and professional growth opportunities for colleges and universities housing professionals statewide.

Nancy Smithfield, assistant professor of computer science and information technology, received the first Innovative Professor Award during the Online Faculty Recognition Luncheon on Nov. 13 at APSU as part of National Distance Learning Week activities. The award was presented by the APSU Center for Extended and Distance Education.

Also, the Center was awarded the Noncredit Program Award for Spanish in the Workplace during the annual conference of the Tennessee Alliance for Continuing Higher Education. The statewide program is an effort to train employees of the Department of Human Services Division of Rehabilitation Services so they can serve clients better.

Melony Shemberger, communication specialist, placed first in her age division (35-39, female) for a 15 K (9.3 miles) at the 28th annual Reveal Memorial Turkey Run on Nov. 22 in Herrin, Ill.

She will compete Thursday in a 10K race at the annual Nile-Buchanan YMCA Thanksgiving Day Run in Niles, Mich.
