For the first time since its inception several years ago, InnerAction—the official newsletter for Austin Peay State University faculty and staff—has a new editor.

Rebecca Mackey, communication specialist in the Office of Public Relations and Marketing, replaces Debbie Denton, marketing manager, as editor of the weekly, electronic newsletter.

“This is a logical shift in responsibilities,” says Dennie Burke, executive director of public relations and marketing. “Rebecca brought exceptionally strong editorial skills to the job when she was hired as communication specialist in September.

“Rebecca's willingness to take on the time-consuming task of compiling and editing InnerAction each week will free up Debbie to focus her time and attention on marketing the University.”

Already Mackey has put in place a system she calls “Connections,” by which she contacts specific people within departments, offices, programs, etc., on a regular, rotating basis to find out what's happening within his/her area that might be newsworthy.

“My vision for InnerAction is to help faculty and staff feel connected to every facet of the campus community,” Mackey says. “It's important for every office and department to have a voice in InnerAction, so I will be contacting representatives from each regularly.”

Mackey welcomes suggestions from faculty and staff on ways to improve InnerAction, potential articles for the newsletter, etc.

She says, “My hope is that readers will turn to InnerAction first as an outlet for spreading their news across campus, and we can deliver an informative, entertaining newsletter that people will look forward to every Tuesday.”

Mackey holds two degrees from APSU. She earned a Bachelor of Arts (magna cum laude) in English in 1996 and a Master of Arts in English in 1999. She was a President's Emerging Leaders Program participant and a scholarship recipient.

Before her APSU appointment, Mackey was executive editor of Our City, having begun work as copy editor with Our City in 1997. She moved rapidly through the ranks as editor and managing editor before becoming executive editor in January 2001.
