Lady Govs drop a slippery decision

APSUs womens soccer team worked its way through another weather delay to pick up a loss against Gardner-Webb, 1-0, at the Lady Govs Invitational Sunday.

After a pair of cancellations Friday, both teams were eager to get on the field. But a line of thunderstorms appeared in the 29th minute, accounting for over an hour of stoppage time.
The Austin Peay offense put up a strong argument throughout the first half, firing 13 shots, placing five on goal, but not managing to find the back of the net.
APSU's women's soccer team worked its way through another weather delay to pick up a loss against Gardner-Webb, 1-0, at the Lady Govs Invitational Sunday.

“Before the weather delay, I thought we owned pretty much the majority of the play and possessions,” said Head Coach Kelley Poole-Guth. “We had a couple of good scoring opportunities where their keeper came up big on a couple of good shots.“

Gardner-Webb controlled the action following the stoppage, and Cristin Yasinsac punctuated the dominance with a goal in the 34th minute that would stand.

APSU's Sarah Broadbent picked up only two saves, allowing the lone goal, while GWU's Corinne Razem picked up eight saves and a shutout. APSU outshot Gardner-Webb, 19-14, with seven APSU players recording shots including Lindsey McLaurin's team-best five, two on goal.

“We just didn't capitalize,” said Poole-Guth. “It's our first game, and we learned a lot.”

OVC partner Southeast Missouri recorded a win over IUPUI, 2-0, in the day's first game. SEMO outshot IUPUI, 19-6, with Erin Hartmann and Alaina Schuppan scoring the goals.
