High School Upward Bound claims 2nd place in regional Scholars Bowl

Austin Peay State Universitys High School Upward Bound Scholars Bowl Team, the state champion of the 2010 Tennessee Association of Special Programs (TASP) Scholars Bowl Competition, won second place in the 2010 Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) Scholars Bowl championship held April 17 at Atlanta (Ga.) Metropolitan College.
Austin Peay State University's High School Upward Bound Scholars Bowl Team, the state champion of the 2010 Tennessee Association of Special Programs (TASP) Scholars Bowl Competition, won second place in the 2010 Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) Scholars Bowl championship held April 17 at Atlanta (Ga.) Metropolitan College.

Teams were quizzed on mathematics, science, English literature, Greek mythology and current events. APSU's Bowl Team competed against teams from North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence, Florida State University, Georgia Southern University, Kentucky All- Star, Coffeeville Calhoun School District, Mississippi, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The APSU High School Upward Bound Scholars Bowl team members are Adriana Tate, Jocetta Dennis, Alex Simmons, Kyusok Lee, Michelle Meija and Jae Lee (team captain). The Upward Bound Scholars Bowl Team represents the following area high schools: Kenwood, West Creek and Rossview.

A federally funded program, High School Upward Bound provides services to low-income, first-generation students who show potential for postsecondary achievement. The project at APSU provides basic skills and motivational development, tutoring, counseling and postsecondary orientation to 75 qualified high school students in Montgomery County.
