Guitar faculty member chosen commission Artist of the Week

The Tennessee Arts Commission has chosen an Austin Peay State University music faculty member has its Artist of the Week.

Dr. Stanley Yates, professor of music who directs the Universitys guitar program, was selected for the honor for the week of Oct. 2.

Dr. Stanley Yates, professor of music who directs the University's guitar program, was selected for the honor for the week of Oct. 2.

Praised as “one of an elite breed of guitarists” by Classical Guitar Magazine, England, Yates has performed extensively as a recital and concerto soloist throughout the U.S. and Europe. He also has presented a number of masterclasses and lectures at such places as The Royal Academy of Music, London, and the North Carolina School of the Arts.

In addition, Yates' recent transcription and recording of the Bach Cello Suites has received international attention.

British-born, Yates received performer's diplomas from Trinity College, London, and Sandown College of Performing Arts, Liverpool. He also earned postgraduate degrees from the University of Liverpool with a distinction in performance and the University of North Texas, where he was the only non-pianist ever to receive the Morgan Dissertation Award for Excellence in Music Performance. -- Melony Leazer
