Guitar Ensemble presents a program of Latin American music

The Guitar Ensemble at Austin Peay State University will present a program of Latin American music.

The ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Stanley Yates, professor of music, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 4 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The program will consist of guitar quartets and duos in performances of music by composers from Brazil, Cuba and Argentina.

Yates says, “A main focus of the program will be arrangements of Brazilian popular music by Celso Machado and five works by Cuban composer Leo Brouwer, including two of his evocative ‘Cuban Landscapes' and his arrangement of the Beatles' ‘Fool on the Hill.'

“The program will feature other composers including the Argentinians, Maximo Diego Pujol and Jorge Cardoso, and the Brazilian Joao Guimarespopularly known as ‘Pernambucco.'”
