Faculty, staff named ‘stars' of this year's Candlelight Ball

A monthlong schedule of activities spotlighting Austin Peay State University will precede the April 2, 2008, inauguration of President Tim Hall, and the kick-off is the Candlelight Ball, Austin Peays annual black-tie gala and fundraiser.

Each spring, more than 200 patrons attend the festivities. Guests not only enjoy a champagne reception, gourmet dinner and evening of dance, they also have opportunities to win such door prizes as fine jewelry and artwork, thanks to the support of Candlelight Ball sponsors.

This year's Candlelight Ballwith its theme of “Dancing with the Stars”will be held Saturday, March 1, at the Hilton, Downtown Nashville. The 6:30 p.m. reception will be followed by dinner and dancing at 7:30 p.m.

“The ball's volunteer committee wants to honor faculty and staff, who are the ‘stars' of Austin Peay,” said Sharon Silva, director of development. “Faculty and staff who attend not only will be recognized during the ball, they also will be invited to a reception in President and Mrs. Hall's suite at 6 p.m.”

According to Silva, over the years, proceeds from the Candlelight Ball have supported various campus initiatives. However, for the past several years, all funds raised have gone to build a scholarship endowment. Scholarships funded from the Candlelight Ball endowment are based on the student-applicants' essays on the importance of volunteerism.

Faculty and staff who want to attend the ball must make reservations no later than Feb. 25, 2008. Reservations are $150 per person.

Room reservations at the Hilton are available at a group rate by calling (615) 620-2150.
