Faculty, staff encouraged to update Web sites on APSU server

The Office of Public Relations and Marketing and the Office of Information Technology are asking all faculty and staff who operate Web sites (professional, departmental, organizational or personal) on the APSU Web server (apsu.edu) to audit their pages for personal and/or identifying information, namely full or partial Social Security numbers, within the next 30 days.

The University soon will implement Yahoo! as a third-party search engine on the APSU Web site. After May 18, if neither Public Relations and Marketing nor OIT has received confirmation that the site does not contain personally identifiable information, it will be removed. Such action must be administered to avoid any risk of personal information being searchable through the APSU Web site.

This is also an opportunity for faculty and staff to remove outdated pages and/or content from their site.
