Extended Ed announces January classes

Learn a new skill with a course from Austin Peay's Center for Extended and Distance Education. The following classes will begin in January.

Computer Courses

"Keyboarding Basics uses interactive software to teach touch-type technique and effective keyboarding. It's perfect for absolute beginners and those who would like to improve their typing technique. Classes run from 6-8 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 13-29, at 106 Public Square, Clarksville. The course fee is $81, the lab fee is $5 and the textbook costs $30.

Computer Courses

“Overcoming Computerphobia” teaches those with little to no computer experience to explore the hardware and software of the computer and learn to use the Internet. Classes run from 6-8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 14-23, at 106 Public Square, Clarksville. The course fee is $65, the lab fee is $5 and the supply fee is $7.

“Computer Hardware Upgrading (MCP)” teaches participants how to install and upgrade computer hardware and gives tips for troubleshooting during upgrades. Classes run from 6-9 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 14-23, at 106 Public Square, Clarksville. The course fee is $190, and the lab fee is $5.

Register for three MCP classes and receive 15 percent off each course fee.

Online Healthcare Courses

“Online Certificate in Gerontology” is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals who work with older adults in the areas of nursing, teaching, service, administration or research. The course begins Jan. 15. The fee is $175.

“Online Certificate in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM)” gives students a broader understanding of alternative healthcare options. The course, which is relevant to RNs, LPNs, physicians, therapists, educators, counselors, clergy and other healthcare professionals, begins Jan. 15. The fee is $199.

“Online Certificate in Spirituality, Health and Healing” is designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals who work with diverse religions and spiritual populations. Classes begin Jan. 15. The course fee is $199.

Courses on Aging and Gerontology

“Intro to Gerontology” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $51.

“Aging and Disorders of Communication” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $28.

“Animal-Assisted Therapy” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $28.

“Assisting Aging Parents” beings Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

“Death and Dying” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $28.

“Elder Abuse” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $28.

“Healthy Aging” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $28.

“Paralegal Prep” is a six-part training program that prepares people to work in a law
office. The basic skills needed by paralegal support staff are explored in each course.

"Paralegal Prep" courses 1-6 each begin Jan. 15. The fee for each course is $195.

“Intro to Criminal Law” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

“12 Steps to a Successful Job Search” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

"Job Search Strategies” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

“Creating a Successful Business Plan” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

Creative Writing (Online)

“The Craft of Magazine Writing” begins Jan. 15. The fee for this online course is $64.

“Writeriffic: Creativity Training for Writers” begins Jan. 15. This online course fee is $64.

“After the Marriage Ends” begins Jan. 15. The fee for this online course is $64.

Test Prep Classes (Online)

“GED Test Prep” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

“GRE Prep, Part 1: Verbal” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

“LSAT Prep, Part 1” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

“SAT/ACT Prep, Part 1” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $64.

Programming, Internet and Design Courses

“CGI Programming for the Web” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $53.

“Intro to Adobe Acrobat 5” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $53.

“Intro to MS FrontPage 2002” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $53.

“Flash MX for the Absolute Beginner” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $53.
“Intro to Networking” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $53.

“Intro to the Internet” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $53.

“Java for the Absolute Beginner” begins Jan. 15. The course fee is $53.

Graphic Design, Digital Design and Multi-Media Design

“Graphic Design Certificate Program” is a 12-18 month program teaches important design techniques, composition, typography, visual thinking and concept development. Courses may be started on any date between Jan. 15 and July 31. The course fee is $2,255.

“Digital Design Certificate Program” is a 6-18 month program focusing on digital media and teaches design techniques, visual thinking, concept development, composition and typography. Courses may be started on any date between Jan. 15 and July 31. The course fee is $2,255.

“Multimedia Certificate Program” is a 12-18 month program that teaches the latest trends in multimedia design on the Web, in CD-ROMs or using Director, Flash or HTML. Courses may be started on any date between Jan. 15 and July 31. The course fee is $2,255.

Community Service Programs

“Motorcycle Rider Class” provides basic mental and motor skills for new riders. The course meets from 6-10 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. “Parents, Children and Divorce” is the state-mandated course for divorcing parents. The course required for couples with minor children before a divorce is granted. The father and mother do not attend class at the same time, and children are not permitted to attend. Classes are held in Clarksville on the Austin Peay campus and in Dickson at the Renaissance Center each month. The course and textbook fee is $30.
