Elvan Penny and Scott Phelps, students at Watkins College of Art & Design, were asked to remove their video, “Fearful Symmetry,” from the 2004 student exhibition. The video, which won the Best of Show honors, included footage of the beheading of an American hostage in Iraq. (The Tennessean, 10/22/04)

University of Tennessee geologist Dr. Larry Taylor and colleagues have negotiated a deal to study a small portion of the Sultenate of Oman's rare meteorites from the moon and Mars. The rocks date to the formation of the moon about 4.56 billion years ago. (The Tennessean, 10/14/04)
