Community School of the Arts to host winter recital

The Community School of the Arts at Austin Peay State University will host a full day of music recitals and concerts, performed by students enrolled in the Community School of the Arts.

Recitals will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 1 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The final recital will begin at 7 p.m. All performances are free and open to the public.

Students young and not-so-young will provide a full day of beautiful music to showcase their progress over the fall semester, said JoAnn McIntosh, coordinator of the Community School of the Arts. Recitals will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 1 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The final recital will begin at 7 p.m. All performances are free and open to the public.

“Students young and not-so-young will provide a full day of beautiful music to showcase their progress over the fall semester,” said JoAnn McIntosh, coordinator of the Community School of the Arts.

The 9 a.m. performance will feature a piano recital where budding pianists have the opportunity to perform on the Bosendorfer grand piano. The day will continue featuring the musical talents of singers, violinists and other instrumentalists, McIntosh said.

Music selections range from classical, such as the orchestral “Toy Symphony” by Mozart's father, to such popular selections as “May It Be” from “Lord of the Rings.” The recitals also will feature a sprinkling of seasonal favorites.

The 9 a.m. performance will feature piano and double reed students from the studios of Carolyn Bunger, Simone Rothemel and Nora Lewis. At 10:30 a.m., violin students under the direction of Elizabeth Langford and Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos will perform. The noon recital will feature violinists under the direction of Charity Callahan and Ryan Ogrodny. Voice students under the direction of Margaret Brewer, Michelle Dykes and Lindsey Rapp will perform at 1:30 p.m. The 4:30 p.m., recital will feature piano students under the direction of Sylvia Carver.

The final recital of the day will begin at 7 p.m., featuring various Community School ensembles, including the Clarksville Youth Orchestra, the Clarksville Youth Chorus and the Clarksville Teen Singers.
