Clarinet Ensemble Concert scheduled for next week

The Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will sponsor a concert featuring the APSU Clarinet Choir.

The APSU Clarinet Ensemble Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 15 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Dr. Stephen Clark, professor of music, will conduct the concert. The ensemble will include works representing nearly every classical style period from the Renaissance to the 20th century.

The APSU Clarinet Ensemble Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 15 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Dr. Stephen Clark, professor of music, will conduct the concert. The ensemble will include works representing nearly every classical style period from the Renaissance to the 20th century.

Composers featured in the concert include William Byrd, Giovanni Gabrieli, J. S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Chopin and Igor Stravinsky. To provide contrast to a mostly classical program, the ensemble will perform a wonderful pop selection, “Autumn in New York” by Vernon Duke.

In 2001, Clark was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award by the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts. In addition to teaching clarinet at APSU, Clark directs the Clarinet Choir and teaches woodwind methods and music appreciation classes. He has served on the faculty of the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts for five summers. He was a clarinet recitalist and lecturer on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium in 1989. In 1992 and

1993, Clark served as guest conductor of the University of Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium Clarinet Choir. Clark also performed as the clarinet soloist with the Tennessee All State Women's Chorale at the 1995 Tennessee Music Education Association Conference in Nashville.

The ensemble performers are Nathan Givens, Nigel Brown, Caleb Wise, Wesley Bradford, Leighton Hathcote, Amanda Plumpton, Joseph Brewer, Erica Wommack, Christine Patraw, MarLana Nyholt and Christopher Powell.
