The Austin Peay State University Department of Art will host a lecture by guest artist Paul D. Miller, known as DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid.

The talk will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13 in Trahern, Room 401. The event is free and open to the public.

Miller's talk will center on his award-winning collection of essays, “Rhythm Science,” which was released in 2004. The essays explore the hidden connections between collage-based aesthetics and what Miller likes to call the “politics of perception.” His lectures unpack some of the issues that modern artists face: intellectual property, ownership of ideas, and above all, how art navigates the complex culture of digital media.

His talk is accompanied by his use of many historic texts, rare audio recordings and films to demonstrate the complex relationship between text and art in a multimedia context.

Miller has recorded and collaborated with a wide variety of musicians including Yoko Ono, Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth and Killa Priest from Wu-Tang Clan. He continues to perform around the world as a soloist or with chamber groups and orchestras.
