“Travel Writing Down Under,” coordinated by Dr. Allene Phy-Olsen, professor of English, and Dr. Ellen Kanervo, professor of mass communication, will run from July 17 to Aug. 15. Students will read classic samples of travel writing while touring Sydney's museums, galleries and parks, and experiencing other cultural opportunities.

The program also features an optional weekend excursion to Cairns to explore the Great Barrier Reef and rain forest, or to Auckland, New Zealand.

Students will want to experience as much as they can of Australia's mixed culture, customs, history and extraordinary nature for their travel articles. Time will be built in for students to explore individual places of personal interest.

The cost of the month-long program is $3,995. The deadline for applications is Feb. 28. The course is offered under the auspices of the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad.
