APSU faculty, staff achieve goals through pursuits

Faculty and staff at Austin Peay State University recently brought recognition to the University through their professional, scholarly and personal development activities.

Dr. Christos Frentzos, assistant professor of history, present a paper, titled South Koreas ‘Forgotten War: Wartime Atrocities and the Social and Cultural Impact of the Vietnam War on the Republic of Korea, at the Society for Military History Conference held recently in Murfreesboro.

Dr. Christos Frentzos, assistant professor of history, present a paper, titled “South Korea's ‘Forgotten War': Wartime Atrocities and the Social and Cultural Impact of the Vietnam War on the Republic of Korea,” at the Society for Military History Conference held recently in Murfreesboro.

Also at the conference, Dr. Gregory Zieren, professor of history, presented a paper, titled “Ernest von Halle and the U.S. Navy in German Naval Propaganda, 1897-1907.” And Dr. Minoa Uffelman, assistant professor of history, moderated a panel, “African-American Soldiers and Society in the American Civil War.”

Three graduate students also attended the conference: David Ogan, Andrew Breer and Jay Tomlin.

Four APSU faculty and staff are new members of Phi Kappa Phi, an all-discipline honor society. They are Dr. John Blake, associate professor of engineering technology; Dr. Cully Carson-Grefe, associate professor of languages and literature; Dr. Tristan Denley, provost and vice president of academic and student affairs; and Bill Persinger, executive director of public relations and marketing.

Melony Shemberger, communication specialist in public relations and marketing, won third place overall female division in the Jan Wilson Memorial 5K Run held April 18 at Murray State University. A couple of hours later, she again took third place in the 30-39 co-ed age division at a 5K run sponsored for the first time by MSU's National Student Speech, Language and Hearing Association chapter. She will run in the Kentucky Derby Festival Half-Marathon on April 25 in Louisville.
