Employers: Posting a Job at APSU

Austin Peay State University students and alumni represent a diverse range of skills, experience and education. Posting a job with APSU Career Services is a good way to connect with this rich job market.  Your next great employee could be from APSU!

To give yourself the best chance of finding strong candidates, please read the Tips and FAQ below.  You may post a job by filling out our online job posting form OR you can e-mail or fax premade announcement to us.  Our fax number is (931) 221-7100.  We maintain hardcopy announcements in our office for four weeks or until the specified closing date.  Part-time local jobs are also advertised on a high traffic bulletin board in our University Center.  Online listings are not yet available.  We anticipate hosting live job announcements by the 2009-2010 school year.

Tips for Employers
  • Set a closing date on your announcement.  Logical or not, people are more likely to dismiss jobs with open timelines.  You can always repost if necessary.

  • Please contact us if your position is filled before its closing date.  A quick call or e-mail saves you a lot of unnecessary inquiries.  It also helps maintain our reputation as a reliable source for current job listings.  A good reputation brings more candidates to our office, so everyone wins!

  • For part-time postings, be specific about scheduling needs so students know whether they can work the hours.

  • Describing the duties and requirements of the job is the best way to get applicants who are a good match.

  • Be clear about how you want or do not want to be contacted.

  • If you require a candidate who is graduating or has graduated with a specific degree, you can contact our office for referrals.  For more information, see the FAQ.

FAQ

What kind of jobs are APSU students seeking?

Current, full-time students are usually looking for part-time work in the Clarksville, TN area.  Because of class schedules, employers who have some flexibility in their hours are in high demand.  Child care, office work and general labor are popular with students.

Students who are approaching graduation may be seeking full time employment in their field.  Some are willing to relocate, but a number of our students have ties to middle Tennessee and are hoping to settle here.

I need people with a degree in a specific field; can you help?

We maintain credentials files for students and alumni who are actively seeking a job.  A credentials file contains a resume, references and other pertinent employment information.  If you have a job requiring a specific background, you can call or e-mail our office, and we will check our files for you.  If we have candidates who are a match, we will forward their resumes and references to you.

Employers who have an ongoing need for employees with specific degrees can be added our credentials file database.  We periodically review student and alumni credential files and refer qualified candidates to companies in the database.  Please call (931) 221-6544 for more information.

Even if you are requesting credentials files, it is worthwhile to post a job announcement with us.  Our office serves many students and alumni who may not have current file.

Do you form partnerships with employers?

We do not establish contractual relationships with employers.  However, many recruiters send us job openings regularly.  We also maintain a contact list of employers, and we send occasional information about recruitment opportunities at APSU.  To add your company to the list, please call our office at (931) 221-6544.

Do you host any Career Fairs?

We sure do!  Our annual career fair is entering it's third decade.  It is held every year on or around the third Wednesday in October.  For more information or to register, visit the Career Fair Homepage. We also participate in the Nashville Area Career Fairs every February.

I am not able to come to the Career Fair.  Are there other ways to recruit on campus?

Although the Career Fair is an excellent value for recruiters, we realize that not everyone can make it.  Therefore, we do offer on-campus recruiting throughout the school year.  Visit the On-campus Recruiting homepage for more information.
