 First Book Award for Poetry
Prize: $1,000 and Publication

Guidelines:
• One copy of your manuscript of 48-80 pages. 
• An acknowledgments page may be included.
• $20.00 reading fee made payable to Zone 3 Press. Reading fee includes a one-year subscription to ZONE 3.

Submitting Online:
•  Please include one title page with the title  only (no personal identification) in your document. 
•

In the genre field, scroll down to choose "First Book Award in Poetry," and upload your manuscript. (Do not choose "poetry" for your genre, as this is dedicated to individual poems uploaded for the chance of publication in our biannual journal.)
• 
You will be directed to another webpage for secure payment.

Please upload by May 1, 2016.

Eligibility and Additional Considerations:
• Anyone who has not published a full-length collection of poems (48 pages or more) is eligible; those with chapbooks may participate.
•The final judge is Douglas Kearney.
•Current and former students and faculty of APSU are not eligible to enter. In addition, Zone 3 Press will not accept manuscripts from contestants who have previously studied with, or have a personal relationship with the announced judge. 
•Winner will be notified by e-mail or telephone.
• Please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard for confirmation of manuscript receipt. 
• For contest results, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Manuscripts will not be returned.

• An acknowledgments page may be included.
• $25.00 reading fee made payable to Zone 3 Press. Reading fee includes a one-year subscription to ZONE 3.

• Please include one title page with the title  only (no personal identification) in your document. 
• Click here to complete the submission manager form, choosing "Creative Nonfiction Book Award" for your genre, and upload your manuscript.
• You will be directed to another webpage for secure payment.
Submissions are open December 1, 2016-May 31, 2017.


Eligibility and Additional Considerations:

•The competition is open to all authors writing original works in English. Manuscripts that embrace creative nonfiction’s potential by combining lyric exposition, researched reflection, travel dialogues, or creative criticism are encouraged. Memoir, personal narrative, essay collections, and literary nonfiction are also invited.
• The final judge will be announced.
• In order to ensure the integrity of this award, current and former students and faculty of APSU are not eligible to enter. In addition, Zone 3 Press will not accept manuscripts from contestants who have previously studied with, or have a personal relationship with the announced judge. 
• The winner will be notified by e-mail or telephone.
• Please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard if you mail in a hardcopy of your manuscript for confirmation of manuscript receipt. 
• For contest results, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Manuscripts will not be returned.
• The judge may choose no winner if she finds no manuscript that, in her estimation, merits publication and the award.

Zone 3 Literary Award Contests

Zone 3 is accepting submissions for its annual nonfiction, fiction, and poetry contests. For online submissions, click here to log in and upload your entry. For paper submissions, submit one essay, one short story, or up to 3 poems with SASE to: Zone 3, APSU, P.O. Box 4565, Clarksville, TN 37044. Deadline 5/1/16.  Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please notify us immediately if the work is accepted elsewhere. The winners will be announced on our website. Prize: $250 and publication.



2016 Zone 3 Contest Award Winners

Zone 3 is pleased to announce the following winners of our annual nonfiction, fiction, and poetry contests:

David Huddle, for his essay "Verbal Binary Presence in Early Childhood Development, that Infamously Difficult Poetic Form the Villanelle, and the Spiritual Quotidian" (Fall 2016); James Braziel, for his story “Shiner" (Spring 2016); and Erinn Batykefer, for her poem "Two Bees" (Spring 2016).



2015 Zone 3 Contest Award Winners

Zone 3 is pleased to announce the following winners of our annual nonfiction, fiction, and poetry contests:

Craig Reinbold, for his essay "On Some Lines of Chekhov" (Fall 2015); Brad Felverfor his story “Out of the Bronx" (Fall 2015); and Brandi George, for her poem "Lily and Gog" (Spring 2015).

Honorable mentions go to Troy Taylor for his poem "The Jellyfish Room," published in Spring 2015, and to Felicia Zamora for her poem "Work."
