V-Day
APSU joined the international V-Day movement in February 2002 with its first two performances of Eve Ensler's play, "The Vagina Monologues." The play is produced as part of the course work for WS 3060: Vagina Monologues. Speakers for the course include a midwife who speaks about natural childbirth, a professor who speaks about the Muslim religion, lesbian women who speak about the formation of their sexuality, and professionals who work with survivors of violence.  Students organize and display The Clothesline Project in conjunction with producing the play, and present research projects on subjects generated by the course.

In 2004, two performances generated more than $2000, which was donated to local organizations which assist female survivors of violence.  The Clarksville office of the Rape and Sexual Abuse Center will use its donation toward counseling scholarships. The Women's Studies Program is committed to producing the play every year, as the V-Day campaign urges, "Until the violence stops."
