Welcome Home 101st

On Jan. 7, the first 275 troops with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Ky., returned home from their yearlong deployment to Afghanistan, sparking an excitement in the local community. An additional 17,000 troops will be returning to Fort Campbell over the next several months.

To express its gratitude for the soldiers and welcome home the division, Austin Peay State University is organizing teams of faculty and staff to serve refreshments at Fort Campbell Army Airfield when airliner flights arrive. APSU faculty and staff who are interested in volunteering with the APSU team for a Welcome Home Ceremony, should contact Carol Clark, executive assistant to the president, by telephone at 221-7570 or by e-mail to (Individuals who registered earlier using the online form are already on the volunteer roster.)

APSU is working with the Tennessee-Kentucky Chapter of the Association of the United States Army to organize the welcome home flights. When APSU is assigned a welcome home flight, an APSU team leader will utilize the volunteer roster to organize a team of about six volunteers. General information about attending the Welcome Home Ceremonies at Fort Campbell is available at
