call 221-7600.
The main office in Clarksville is on Castle Heights, which is a
one-way street off Second Street. 219 Castle Heights is a white house
with black shutters on the left side of the street. Above the entrance
to the house is a red and white sign identifying Veterans Upward Bound. (If
you need further directions, please click on the MAP
or call 931-221-7600).
We periodically offer enrollment seminars. These include
prizes and free information. Be sure to ask about our next seminar when
you request information.
This sounds great, but does it cost
anything?
This is all FREE. However, we must determine if
you are eligible for the program. Not everyone can take advantage of our
wonderful services.
So, who's eligible? Am I?
You are eligible if you meet the following criteria:
-
United States veteran discharged under honorable
conditions from any of the armed services after January 31, 1955,
who served at least 181 days in the military. You may also
qualify if you are on terminal leave from the military.
-
You do not have a four-year college
degree.
-
You are not currently enrolled in college.
-
You are low-income according to federal guidelines.
-
And/or, neither of your parents have a four-year college degree.
-
If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact our
office.
-
Even if you don't meet all of the criteria, still give us a
call so that we can make a final determination.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring a copy of your DD-214 and your most recent
IRS tax return. We will assist you with the application and answer any
questions you have regarding the program. If you are on terminal leave,
please bring appropriate paperwork to substantiate that claim.
What is this I hear about the $40.00 tax free
money?
You may be eligible for a monthly stipend of up to
$40.00 in tax free money. Please contact our office for more
information.
Why do I need this?
We get you ready for college and help you with skills
you've forgotten. Most colleges require some sort of assessment of
incoming students. Depending on the results of the assessment, you may
be required to take additional courses to assist you with deficiencies and
prepare you for college level work. These courses will require tuition,
fees, books and will cost you money in college. By attending the VUB
program, you may be able to pass the assessment and successfully complete
college level work without the need for remedial or refresher courses.
Best of all, you get this training for FREE with the VUB program.
Most of all, you need this because it is a great place to start
your college career -- and it's fun!
