Dissertation title: Systematics of the Kingsnakes, Genus Lampropeltis.

Directed by Arthur C. Echternacht, Ph. D., Professor of Zoology

This study examines five of the six subspecies of kingsnakes using multivariate statistical methods. Principal components analysis provides the most useful taxonomic determinations. Results confirm the validity of many subspecific taxa, but question the validity of some. Results also suggest that certain subspecies should be linked in geographic subspecies complexes.
