Why Choose the Theatre
and Dance Program?
-
Students come first. We think
helping students become strong theatre professionals
should be our top priority--and it is
-
Learn by doing. Through
departmental production, conferences,
and faculty contacts, you'll have the
opportunity to work in theatre throughout the school
year as well as during the summer. These
opportunities often translate into great jobs
after graduation.
-
Perform on Mainstage. The
opportunity for students to perform and work on mainstage
productions many
times throughout their academic career is a much
better possibility at APSU than at larger state
institutions.
-
Work with excellent faculty. You'll
be taught by caring professors with excellent
academic credentials and real-world experience--not
by graduate students.
-
Direct, act, design, choreograph or write for the
theatre. Participate in five mainstage
productions and several one act plays each year. In
association with Austin Peay's Center of Excellence
for the Creative Arts you'll have the opportunity to
work with world-renowned theatre experts in a
variety of theatre areas.
-
Direct Mentoring. Students in
Theatre and Dance have a one-on-one relationship with the
faculty and staff. We care about our students' time
while at APSU.
-
Regional Exposure. APSU Theatre has
become known in the Southeast for being a powerful
liberal arts institution. We participate in the
Southeastern Theatre Conference, American College
Theatre Festival, American College Dance Festival, as well as the Tennessee Theatre
Association and Tennessee Association of Dance.
-
Classes are small. In our
department, as in almost all Austin Peay classes,
class size is capped at 25. You get personal
attention.
-
Potential for Career success. We
have a large number of graduates that have gone on
to pursue a graduate degree in theatre or to work in
theatre professionally. We keep in touch with our
graduates.
-
Have fun while learning. Our
program is challenging, yet friendly and
user-friendly. You'll enjoy getting to know fellow
students, faculty, and community members.
