Scholarships

The department of Theatre and Dance offers a variety of scholarships for students at various stages of their academic career. Please be sure to look at the FOUR areas for scholarship opportunities. You may be eligible for more than one.

1.) Out-of-State Tuition Wavers

There are a limited number of Out-of-State Tuition Wavers for Theatre and Dance Students. Three will be issued for a Theatre major and one for a Dance minor at the discretion of the Chair of the department. For more information please contact us at 931-221-6767.

2.) Department of Theatre and Dance Performance Scholarships in Dance

Criteria: Entering Freshman and current students with high potential for achievement in dance. High Motivation with dedication to the Dance program.  Full-time. Current students must maintain a departmental GPA of 3.0 with an over-all GPA of 2.5.

 3.) Department of Theatre and Dance Performance Scholarships in Theatre

Criteria: Entering Freshman and current students with high potential for achievement in the theatre.  High Motivation with dedication to the Theatre program.  Full-time. Current students must maintain a departmental GPA of 3.0 with an over-all GPA of 2.5.

In addition to the general awards, the department also offers talent scholarships and several specific merit-based awards:

     Eligibility:

All high school graduates with acceptable academic records and an aptitude for theatre and/or dance, who plan to pursue studies in theatre arts leading to a degree, are eligible to audition. All scholarship applicants must apply for admission to be considered in the scholarship competition.

Awards:

        All awards are for one academic year and renewable each year upon formal review of the student's performance.

       Awards range from $500 - $2,000, and are for a maximum of eith semesters.

Criteria for Auditions

  • Scholarships are awarded on the bases of acting or technical expertise, academic record, a willingness to work and a positive attitude
  • Acting: Applicants wishing to audition for an acting scholarship should bring two (2) cuttings of no more than two minutes each - one serious and one light. The pieces should demonstrate your best effort. Do not be concerned about costumes and properties. however, if you plan to sing, please let us know ahead of time.
  • Dance: Applicants wishing to audition for a dance scholarship should come prepared to participate in a short audition class and interview.
  • Technical Theatre: Applicants wishing to be interviewed for a technical theatre scholarship in costuming, lighting or set construction should bring a portfolio of their work if available.

4.) Family Named and Memorial Scholarships:

These scholarships have specific criteria depending on the the guidelines set by the donor. There is one appication to be considered for all of the Family Named and Memorial Scholarships. Please click on the link below to access that application.

Scholarship Audition/Interview Dates for 2013-2014 will be posted soon!

* Electronic Auditions: On campus auditions are strongly preferred, hoowever distance or schedule conflicts may make travel to an APSU Scholarship Day difficult. When those situations arise, the Department of Theatre and Dance will accept electronic auditions. Digital auditions, web links, or PDF's of design/tech materials may be emailed to vernonb@apsu.edu or mailed to Brian Vernon at the address below. Deadline for submissions: March 2nd, 2014.
