CLEP  - College Level Examination Program
 
Students earn credit for college courses by making a certain minimum score on general or subject exams.

Costs:  $70.00 check, money order, or debit/credit card to CLEP; $15.00 cash or debit/credit to APSU ** There is an additional $10.00 fee if you are required to take the essay portion of Freshman College Composition and Analyzing and Interpreting Literature exams.

Active Duty Military: The $70.00 CLEP fee is waived for active duty military personnel.  However, the $15.00 Austin Peay fee is required.

Notes:

  • Literature requires 3 ½ hours and all others take 2 hours

  • Students with more than 60 credit hours are not able to take a general test, but can take a subject test.

  You will need to bring two forms of photo ID.

CLEP- College Level Examination Program General Examinations

In order to receive credit for the CLEP General Examinations:

  1. The student must not have earned in excess of 60 semester hours of acceptable traditional credit as of the date he or she takes the exam.
  2. The student must not have received credit in a similar course for which the credit is to be awarded. (Example: Humanities examination = Art Appreciation and Music Appreciation.) A waiting period of six months is required before a student is eligible to repeat any General Examination.

CLEP - College Level Examination Program Subject Examinations

In order to receive credit for the CLEP Subject Examinations the students must not have received credit in a similar course for which the credit is to be awarded.  Both the objective tests and the essay tests may be required for  Subject Examinations. A waiting period of six months is required before a student is eligible to repeat any Subject Examination.  Contact the Testing Office for additional information on the CLEP Examinations.
