CLEP - College Level Examination Program
 
Students earn credit for college courses by achieving a university-designated minimum score on CLEP General or Subject Examinations.

Costs: $72.00 per examination (check, money order, or debit/credit card paid to CLEP) and $15.00 per examination (cash or debit/credit card paid to APSU). There is an additional $10.00 fee if you are required to take the essay component of the Freshman College Composition or the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature Examinations.

Active Duty Military: The $72.00 CLEP fee is waived for active duty military personnel; however, the $15.00 APSU fee is still required.

All CLEP and APSU fees are paid the day of the scheduled CLEP Examination.

Notes:

  • Most CLEP Examinations take approximately 2 hours; however, some English and literature CLEP Examinations require approximately 3 ½ hours.

  • Students with 60 or more credit hours are not eligible to take CLEP General Examinations; however, they can take CLEP Subject Examinations.

  • Students seeking CLEP credit must have earned no credit for a similar course for which the credit is to be awarded.

  • A six month waiting period is required before a student can repeat a General or Subject Examination.

 ID: You will need to bring two forms of photo ID on the day of the exam.

Scheduling:  CLEP Examinations are administered at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on designated test dates. Call Testing Services at 221-6269 to schedule a test date.

CLEP General Examinations

In order to receive credit for the CLEP General Examinations:

  1. The student must have earned less than 60 semester hours of traditional credit as of the date he or she takes the CLEP General Exam.
  2. The student must not have received credit in a similar course for which the credit is to be awarded. (Example: Humanities CLEP Exam = APSU equivalent of Art Appreciation and Music Appreciation)
  3. Note: A waiting period of six months is required before a student is eligible to repeat any CLEP General Examination.

  2. Both the objective tests and the essay tests may be required for some CLEP Subject Examinations.
  3. Note: Students who have earned 60 or more semester hours of traditional credit are eligible to take the CLEP Subject Examinations.
  4. Note: A waiting period of six months is required before a student is eligible to repeat any Subject Examination.
