Long Distance Calling Instructions

All long distance calls from the Austin Peay telephone system must be made using a forced account code.  This code identifies where the call will be billed.

Calls in the continental United States:

From any campus business phone: Dial 8 + 1 + area code + phone number.  After you enter the phone number you will hear a tone similar to a busy signal.  Enter your 6-digit long distance code at that tone and your call will be completed.

International Calls: 

From any campus business phone:  Dial 8 + 011 + country code + city code + phone number. After you enter the phone number you will hear a tone similar to a busy signal.  Enter your 6-digit long distance code at that tone and your call will be completed.

Information Calls:  Because of billing issues, calls to information must be made using a forced account code.  If there is a charge associated with a call for information it will be billed to your account.

From any campus business phone:  Dial 8 + 1 + 555-1212.  After you enter the phone number you will hear a tone similar to a busy signal.  Enter your 6-digit long distance code at that tone and your call will be completed.

Collect Calls:

Because of billing issues, we can not allow any calls to be made by dialing 8 + 1 + 0.  To make a collect call from campus you will need to use one of the long-distance providers' collect call services.  Examples of these are 9-1-800-COLLECT and 9-1-800-CALLATT.

800 Calls:

To dial any toll-free number from campus (1-800, 1-877, etc.) you can dial 8 + 1 + 800 + number.
