Exchange Program at APSU - Japan
Study in Japan
is available to students through an exchange program with Kansai Gaidai University in
Osaka, Japan.

Kansai Gaidai
is a private, nonprofit institution enrolling more than 11,000 Japanese students majoring
in English or Spanish. This Japanese university promotes international education at the
undergraduate level. Austin Peay students participated in the Asian Studies program for one
semester at the international education center on the main campus.
International
students take two kinds of classes. In the mornings, they enroll in a Japanese language
class at their skill level. Speaking, reading and writing are emphasized. Interested
students are encouraged to take Japanese at Austin Peay before applying. In the
afternoons, students take lecture courses in English on topics in various humanities
disciplines. These courses cover a range of subjects from a Japanese and Asian
perspective: history, religion, politics, business and anthropology, for example. Also,
studio art courses are available in ceramics and Japanese brush painting. For all the
courses, students earn Austin Peay credit.
During the Japanese exchange, students had two options for living
accommodations. They had the
unique opportunity of participating in a homestay with a Japanese family or they may live
in the residence hall for international students on campus.
The prior contract
that Austin Peay signed with Kansai Gaidai stated that the Austin Peay students pay
Austin Peay tuition, room and board the semester they attend Kansai Gaidai University.
Other expenses, such as airline cost, books, personal expenses and travel, are borne by
the students.
