Study Abroad Photo Contest

APSU wants to see the world through your eyes! The Study Abroad Photo Contest will provide an opportunity for you to share your experiences abroad with other APSU students, faculty and staff. If you have great photos from your time abroad, then you could win extra spending cash! To participate in the photo contest read the information below, email photos to internationaled@apsu.edu  and submit the below form:

Please ensure that the content of each photo is appropriate to be posted publicly. Austin Peay reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value in the event the offered prize is unavailable. No substitution or transfer of prizes permitted except as provided herein.


The APSU Study Abroad Photo Contest is open to current Austin Peay students, alumni, faculty and staff who have studied abroad (short-term or long-term) with an APSU program. Faculty and staff are not eligible for cash awards. Alumni are eligible for cash awards ONLY if the study abroad/international experience took place during the academic year prior to graduation.

Essence of Study Abroad – An award of $100 will be given for the photo that best captures the spirit of studying abroad. The photo must have been taken during an Austin Peay Study Abroad program by the person submitting the photo or have been taken with the submitter’s camera or photography equipment.

Best International Photo – An award of $100 will be given for the most striking international photo. The photo must have been taken by the person submitting it or have been taken with the submitter’s camera or photography equipment.

Photos will be pulled from both categories above and may be recognized as one of the following:

APSU Spirit - An award of $25 will be given to the photo that best promotes APSU by displaying students wearing APSU apparel and/or showing off the APSU study abroad towel.

Daily Life - An award of $25 will be given to the photo that best displays a student living daily life abroad.

Best Comedic Photo - An award of $25 will be given to a photo that will make people laugh.

Instagramable - An award of $25 will be given to a photo worth being posted on APSU Study Abroad Instagram.

Golden Group - An award of $25 will be given to the photo that best captures studying abroad and shows a group of three or more students.

Local Culture – An award of $25 will be given to the photo that best displays local culture abroad.

Magnificent Landscape - An award of $25 will be given to the photo that best displays landscape.

People’s Choice - An award of $25 will be given to the photo with the highest number of votes from APSU students, faculty, and staff.

Perfect Portrait - An award of $25 will be given to the photo that best displays a student with a famous landmark or icon abroad.

APSU Administrator’s Choice – Photo will be recognized by a top university official. The winner will receive $25.

All photographs should reflect the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization will be disqualified. Acceptable alterations are adjustments to color, contrast, brightness and sharpness; removal of dust and scratches; cropping; black and white conversions; and use of HDMI (high dynamic range imaging), where multiple exposures of the same scene are combined for a greater tonal range. Not acceptable are photo composites (combination of two or more photos, not of the same scene); the addition, duplication, deletion or moving of objects in the photos; or the use of artistic digital filters and effects. Examples of artistic filters and effects that are not allowed are: watercolor neon glow, posterizing, stained glass, and others that do not show the scene in its natural way.


Submission Requirements

Submit a hard copy of the photo(s). Submissions should be 8” by 8” to 8” by 10” prints and mounted on an 11” by 14” white or black mat board. Please write your name on the back of each submission. If submitting multiple entries, number each print on the back to match accordingly to the order you entered your photos on the Entry Web Form. Photos will be displayed in the UC lobby in front of Einstein’s Bagel during the day of the Study Abroad Fair.

Complete the Entry Web Form below. Each participant can submit a maximum of 5 photos. All photos should be submitted in one Entry Web Form.

Submit the Media Release Form and a digital copy of your photo(s) to internationaled@apsu.edu. Save your photo(s) in the following format: Last name_First name _location_term.jpg (i.e. Smith_Charles_Italy_Summer2015. JPEG)


Terms and Conditions

Although APSU will make every reasonable effort to protect and return photo submissions, APSU cannot guarantee that entries will not be lost, stolen or damaged during the contest. By submitting photos to the contest, contestants acknowledge that they understand this risk and will not hold APSU accountable for lost, stolen or damaged property.

Judging

Photographs will be judged on the depiction of the study abroad and international experience.  Originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit will be taken into consideration. All decisions by the judges will be final and binding. Winners will be announced at the Spring 2024 Study Abroad Fair.
