The Academic Support Center seeks to empower all APSU students (both at the
Clarksville campus and the Ft. Campbell Center campus) to assume
responsibility for their learning, so that they can meet and perhaps
exceed their educational, career, and personal goals as they
transition into, through, and out of the university. By addressing
academic concerns through programs such as tutoring, academic
enhancement, and intervention for those students on academic
probation, the Academic Support Center staff help students develop and/or
enhance skills needed for academic success.
African American Cultural Center
The Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center located
in the Clement Building is an important University entity dedicated to
providing theoretical and practical knowledge about the historic and
contemporary contributions, achievements and social perspectives of
African Americans and other people of African descent. Its mission
includes educating and motivating students to be highly aware and
appreciative of the diverse cultures that define the contemporary world.
The Center brings to campus an array of outstanding African American and
African-world scholars, artisans and other professionals whose knowledge
and accomplishments greatly enrich and enhance the University life of
students, faculty, staff and members of the broader Clarksville

Austin Peay State University competes at the
National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level in the Ohio
Valley Conference. The athletic department sponsors men's teams in
football (I-AA non-scholarship), basketball, baseball, golf, tennis
and cross country and women's teams in volleyball, basketball, tennis,
cross country, rifle, softball and indoor and outdoor track.

Sorority and fraternity members develop lasting friendships
and a bond that is both local and national in scope. Affiliation
with Greek organizations offers students numerous opportunities to

Student Health Services
operates an outpatient clinic on campus, with either a
Board Certified Family Practice Physician or a
Nationally Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
available. At hours other than those posted,
students are referred to the local hospital emergency
room. Standards for Student Health Services
are set by The Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools.
Minor illnesses may be treated in the clinic
without expense except for medications and laboratory
tests. Major illnesses are referred to the family
doctor or to the staff of consultants and specialists
at Gateway Hospital, a 216-bed institution approved by
the American Hospital Association. Health
services obtained off-campus are at the patient's
expense. Student Health Services provides acute
medical care, medications, and lab work for a nominal
fee. Health care is provided by certified nurse
practitioners, registered and licensed practical
nurses as well as a consulting physician and
pharmacist.
No medical
services will be given until a medical history is
completed, signed, and filed. In addition to
this initial record, the University reserves the
right to require additional examinations and/or
immunizations during any time the student is enrolled
at the University.

Upon admission to Austin Peay, new
freshman and transfer students will be sent an invitation to
participate in Summer Welcome and Orientation. This program is a day of activities for students to meet with an
advisor, preregister for classes, visit a residence
hall, the Book and Supply Store, academic services, student
services, student organizations, community services, and various
finance offices (Student Financial Aid, Veterans Affairs, and Business

Sickness
and Accident Insurance
The University has contracted to provide, on a
voluntary basis, sickness and accident insurance. An excellent plan,
including hospital and accident benefits, is available to full-time and
part-time students and their family members at a reasonable cost.
Students may obtain more information about this plan at Boyd Health
Services, Ellington Student Services Building. Boyd Health Services
staff as well as the Division of Student Affairs strongly encourages
students to have comprehensive health insurance during their time of
enrollment at the University.
Spiritual Development
At APSU, a student's spiritual growth
can be part of the education and continued personal growth through
participation in the activities of the campus ministries; campus
ministries at APSU are organizations of students who are dedicated to
service of others. These students gather weekly to enhance their
spiritual experience, while helping create a positive atmosphere of
diversity that includes all people. These campus ministries sponsor
spiritual, social and service programs for students at Austin Peay.

The University newspaper, edited by students
with the assistance of an advisor, is a
publication for the expression of student opinion
and a medium for dissemination of timely news of

- The Tower - "The Red Mud Review"
The literary review is published annually
by students under the supervision of the
Department of Languages and Literature. Its
purpose is to promote and stimulate interest in

satisfaction in seeing their work in print.
