  Tutoring Information
"The tutor provoked me to study hard, learn the material, and pass the course. She volunteered her time to give me extra help. I never left a session without an understanding of what I was doing."

--TRIO SSS Participant comment about tutor

Tutoring is one service offered that many TRIO SSS participants benefit from throughout their course of study.  Tutors are assigned based upon the ability of the participant to benefit from tutoring, the availability of funding, and the availability of a qualified tutor.

The Tutor Request Form and the Tutor Application Form are also available outside of our office located in Ellington, Room 337.

Request a Tutor

If you are a TRIO SSS participant and would like a tutor, come to the Ellington 337 and ask for a Tutor Request Form.  This form is also available on this website.  Be sure to fill out both pages of the form, indicating clearly when you are available to be tutored and when you have classes.  Come to the Ellington building and give the form to a staff member.  The Tutor Coordinator will receive the form and examine your schedule and talk to the tutors to find someone who can work with you.  You will be contacted as soon as a tutor is found and times appear workable.  If one week has passed and you have not been contacted, you are asked to call the TRIO SSS office at 931-221-6142 and speak to the Tutor Coordinator.

If you are already officially in the TRIO SSS Program, requesting a tutor is usually as easy as coming to the Program office, filling out the Tutor Request Form, and talking with the Tutor Coordinator all on the same day.

Sometimes a request is made for a subject area with which we do not have a qualified tutor.  In that case, we will do our best to search for a qualified tutor and contact you as soon as one is available.  We ask that you call back after two weeks and speak with the Tutor Coordinator to check on the status of the tutor search.

Be a Tutor

We are currently searching for persons qualified to tutor remedial, developmental, and core courses.  We hire tutors with a flexible schedule on an as-needed basis.  Helping students at TRIO Student Support Services as a mentor and as a tutor will enhance your resume and provide excellent interpersonal skill development opportunities.

If you would like to be a tutor, please bring your social security card and drivers license to Ellington 337 and ask to fill out a Tutor Application.  This form is also available on this website.   Make an appointment with a staff member to speak with the Tutor Coordinator.
