Why take Statistical Methods Courses and what do I need to know to be prepared for these courses??
As the world becomes more and more
complex, statistics plays an increasing roll in understanding the
nature and current state of society. Scientific inquiry relies
heavily on statistical methods. Research in many disciplines
require the student to be able to collect and analyze data. Just
reading and understanding the work of others often requires an
understanding of statistics. The Statistical Methods courses,
Math 3250 and Math 3260 cover many of the important statistical methods
that students in other disciplines are likely to
encounter. In addition, these course can be used to
help satisfy the graduation requirement for 48 hours of
upper-division credit.
While an understanding of some mathematics and the ability to think
mathematically are required, it is not necessary to have had a great
deal of mathematics to do these courses. One course in calculus
should be sufficient preparation.
