April 21, 2011

We had an enjoyable Annual Meeting of APSURANS.   Members presented Gerald Beavers with a plaque in honor of his dedicated service to APSURA over the past years.  Officers were elected, including a new Vice President, Aleeta Christian, to replace Gerald Beavers, and Jim Clemmer was elected to the new position of Publicity Director.  Al Bekus was reelected President, Hester Crews was reelected Secretary, Al Irby was reelected Treasurer, and Ann Harris was reelected as a Director.  Meredith Gildrie and Mitch Robinson are continuing on in their positions as Directors.

April 7, 2011

Fifteen retirees and guests enjoyed dinner at Sole Mio restaurant in Nashville, and attended a wonderful concert by the Nashville Symphony at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.  The concert featured works by Rachmaninoff and Bruckner.

November 7, 2010

Brunch with retirees.  The attendance was small in the Cafeteria on Sunday, November 11, 2010, but good conversation and interchange occurred.

December 7, 2010

President Hall hosted a reception for all retirees in Archwood.  The event was well attended and the food was great.

October 17-19, 2010 

The Fall Creek Falls trip was a great success.  An article about the trip, with photographs, was published in the November APSURA Newsletter. 

October 9, 2010 
Many retirees attended the Homecoming game against TTU.  Our guys got behind at the beginning of the game and could not catch up.  Thanks to University Advancement for furnishing free tickets to retirees.

The APSURA event at the Roxy was a great success.  The gang enjoyed the music of the 1960s in another great production at the theater.

The Second Annual Retirees Seminar, sponsored by  APSU Human Resources and APSURA was another great success.

Retirees attended the APSU Convocation, the Convocation Picnic, and the Convocation APSURA social.

July 15, 2010

The Second Annual Retirees Social was held at the Pace Center at Emerald Hills.  A good time was had by all.  See the photographs of the event on our Photo Album page

April 27, 2010.

A general membership meeting was held on April 27, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in Room 213 of the Morgan University Center.  Election of officers took place and the following officers were elected:

Retirement Workshops
The first sessions of the Retirement Workshops were held on Tuesday, February 16 and Wednesday, February 17 in the Morgan University Center.  The sessions were presented by the APSU Human Resources Department and the APSU Retirees Association.  There were eight people attending the Tuesday morning session and 20 people at the Wednesday afternoon session.  We gathered some good information to guide the topics of the follow-up sessions to be scheduled over the next month.

The Second session was held on Monday, April 19, 2010, from 2 until 4:00 in room 305 of the Morgan University Center.  Presenting were Steve McComas of Great West (401K), Sherion Holmes of IRS, Ron Smith of Social Security, Carla Jernigan of TCRS Retiree Insurance, R. J. Murphy of TCRS Retirement, Stuart Lang of VALIC, Mike Biggs of ING, and Rich Levine of TIAA-CREF.  We had 23 attendees and an excellent workshop.

December 6, 2009 

APSU retirees got together for Sunday lunch on in the APSU cafeteria. The cafeteria serves an excellent brunch menu on Sundays.   

 Another group attended the Roxy on December 12, 2009 for a matinee performance at 2:00 p.m.  The show was Hansel and Gretel, a musical.    

 Several retirees attended a matinee performance to see The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh at the Roxy on October 24, 2009.  It was a wonderful performance and we enjoyed our time together.  After the play a group went to the Front Page Deli for a pleasant dinner and discussion of the play

 

October 31, 2009   2:00 p.m.

A  matinee performance of Poe Unearthed, adapted for the stage by John McDonald.  "Highlighting 'The Tell-Tale Heart,' 'The Masque of the Red Death,'  Several members attended and another good time was had.  We encourage all our members to attend future performances at the Roxy.  See the Retirement Fun Web Sites link to obtain the Roxy web site.
