Welcome to the new, one-step application for ALL scholarships related to the Chemistry Department at Austin Peay State University.  With this process you can apply for as many of the 7 chemistry-related scholarships that you feel qualified to receive. 

Below you will find two parts to the application process.  Part One MUST be completed by every applicant.  Part Two contains 7 sections - one for each of the 7 different scholarships offered.  At the start of each section of Part Two you will find a short description of the scholarship and its requirements for eligibility.  Please read each section thoroughly and complete those for which you feel qualified.  Your application must have a completed Part One and at least one completed section from Part Two.  Copies of transcripts showing all college work must be sent to the address below by the posted deadlines.  On-line applications must be received by noon of the deadline posted for each scholarship to be considered for the Fall semester while hard copy applications should be faxed to 931-221-6261 or postmarked by the deadline date and mailed to:

PART TWO - Scholarship Specific Information - At least one section must be completed by ALL applicants.

Section A - To be completed if you wish to be considered for a Middle Tennessee Science and Engineering Fair (MTSEF) Scholarship.  This scholarship is a non-renewable scholarship of $250 awarded to selected participants in the annual MTSEF which is held on the APSU campus each spring.  Deadline for application is April 15.

Please list all grades in which you entered a project in the MTSEF and indicate which awards were won.

Section B - To be completed if you wish to be considered for a High School Research Day Scholarship.  This scholarship is a non-renewable scholarship of $250 awarded to a high school student who exhibits an outstanding project presentation at the High School Research Day competition held in conjunction with the collegiate division of the TN Academy of Science.  Deadline for application is April 15.

Please list all grades in which you entered a project in the High School Research Day and indicate which awards were won.

Section C - To be completed if you wish to be considered for a Science ExpOlympics Scholarship.  This scholarship is a non-renewable scholarship of $250 awarded for outstanding performance on the written qualifying exam for the Quiz Bowl competition of the semi-annual ExpOlympics which is held on the APSU campus the spring of every even year.  Deadline for application is April 15.

Please list all grades in which you participated in the ExpOlympics and the year/s of your outstanding performance/s on the written exam/s.

Section D - To be completed if you wish to be considered for a John Joseph Flood Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1000 per year to biology or chemistry majors who are low income and have financial need.  Deadline for application is March 15.

Please describe your financial need for receiving this scholarship.  Please state what these scholarship funds mean to you in terms of financial need, etc. as they relate to completing your education.

Section E - To be completed if you wish to be considered for a Durward Harris Scholarship.  This scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a student who is pursuing Premedicine, has completed at least 48 hours at APSU, has successfully completed two semesters of organic chemistry with a least a "B" in lectures and laboratories, and has a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.  Completed application packet is this application, resume, and two letters of recommendation.  The completed packet will be reviewed by a scholarship committee to include Dr. Phil Roe or his designee.  Deadline for application is April 15.

Section F - To be completed if you wish to be considered for a Professional Chemist Alumni Scholarship.  The Chemistry Department will award renewable scholarships up to $1000 per year to entering freshmen who have a great interest in conducting scientific research and who choose the ACS Certified Chemistry major.  The recipient of this scholarship must be in the top ten percent of his or her graduating class, have a minimum ACT composite score of 25 or SAT of 1130, and a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  Deadline for application is March 15.

Please describe any scientific research activities that you have performed indicating any awards that you have won as a result of this work.

Section G - To be completed if you wish to be considered for a Chemistry Academic Scholarship.  The Chemistry Department will award renewable scholarships up to $1000 per year to selected entering freshmen who demonstrate an interest in chemistry and who choose Chemistry as a major.  The recipient of this scholarship must be in the top twenty-five percent of his or her graduating class, have a minimum ACT composite score of 24 or SAT of 1100, and a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  Transfer students and current APSU students are also eligible to apply for the Chemistry Academic Scholarship.  Copies of transcripts showing all college work must be sent to the address above by the posted deadline.  Deadline for application is March 15.
